The Experience
Taking travellers on an icy adventure from the mountain wilderness to the baroque charm of the Romanian stately homes, these hotels offer a cool introduction to Transylvania. An 18th century manor surrounded by parkland and landscaped gardens, Brukenthal Palace Avrig boasts a traditional facade and a restaurant serving up local delicacies. The Hotel of Ice is sculpted entirely from a frozen glacial lake in the snowy surrounds of the Carpathian Mountains. Rooms are provided with fluffy blankets and robust sleeping bags, and customers can sip from ice cocktail glasses or warm up with a warm wine punch in the bar. While an ice restaurant on site makes for culinary adventures, guests may also retreat to an eatery in the rustic Balea Lac Chalet nearby. Here, guests may snuggle up among traditional wooden furnishings and admire views to the sublime mountain surroundings. Visitors may travel to Sighisoara, the birthplace of Dracula, and spend the final night of their winter escapade at the Premier Hotel in the heart of Targu-Mures.
