The Deal
Caldicot Castle and Country Park is a Grade-I listed Norman fortress surrounded by 55 acres of countryside and the meandering Nedern brook. Fans of yesteryear can mosey down to the site's archaic Fortress Wales for a varied, multi-period historical reenactment. Clad in suitably period garb, a troupe of performers presents a display encompassing Medieval conflicts, the American Civil War, WW2 and the Vietnam War. Attendees can browse an array of catering and trade stands, visit the castle and explore the sprawling site as they wish. Families of history fans receive a 16-page, full-colour brochure to help stay clued-up.

Is there a must-do activity when visiting the castle for the first time?
"You must visit the top of the keep and take in the views across the country park and River Severn. Those who dare can go down into the dungeon, while children can take part in treasure trails during the week, or perhaps archery or coin-striking on weekends."
What is there for kids to do on a day out?
"Children always take part in one of many changing treasure trails, stop by the play area, or simply sit and colour one of the many free colouring sheets. Activities are regularly held on weekends, and range from archery to striking your own coin."
Do you have a favourite part of the grounds?
"I like to sit by the small pond and listen to the resident honey bees with a piping hot coffee or chilled lager in hand."
