Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs Duke Bluebeard’s Castle
Sonority abounds as the RPO performs Bartók’s one-act opera at the grand setting of Royal Festival Hall. The revered Hungarian composer based the score on Charles Perrault’s literary tale La Barbe bleue, and the piece has garnered much admiration since its 1918 premiere. The players will be accompanied by vocalists Andrea Meláth and Bálint Szabó to bring the opera to life. The orchestra will also perform Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the help of pianist Marc-André Hamelin, before presenting an exert from Berlioz’s score for The Damnation of Faust. Attendees opting for a price-band B ticket can stay refreshed with a glass of wine to enjoy at the interval.
Programme
Hector Berlioz: Rakoczi March from The Damnation of Faust
Franz Liszt: Piano Concerto No.2 in A
Béla Bartók: Duke Bluebeard’s Castle
