About This Deal
The Event
Russell Kane's Smallness tour sees the comedian take a sideways look at British national identity. The high-energy stand-up riffs on our typical reserve, suspicion and fierce tendency towards nostalgia with plenty of physicality and wordplay. The show also delves into the comic disparity between the performer's sense of self and the aggrandisements of fame, before culminating with the tale of a calamitous holiday in Thailand.
Reviews
Smallness scored 4/5 from The List and 3/5 from The Guardian. Critics were undecided on Kane's ruminations on the British state of mind, but were enthusiastic about his personal stories. Special praise was given to the turns of phrase, asides, voices and overall energy that comprised Kane's distinctive delivery.
"A physical comedian whose mind works at an equally active rate of knots, his piranha-sharp wit can leave you folding in its wake. But when he hits his target, there are few British comics to touch him."
Brian Donaldson, The List, August 2013
