Startrax assembles an evening of high-speed spectacle and metal-to-metal brawls around an oval track. Octane enthusiasts can watch a War of the Roses on wheels competition, as rival teams from Lancashire and Yorkshire race 1600cc bangers. Further races include the Volvo National Bangers WQ1, while Reliant Robbins and hot rods also take to the track. Speed fans can take in the action and stay clued-up thanks to a pair of programmes per party.

G: What makes the races special?

“Stock car racing is like watching gladiators in an arena. It’s an amazingly brash and colourful experience, and offers a display of deft driving skills with full-contact action. Banger racing, on the other hand, delivers awesome destruction, and is about surviving the carnage.”

G: Describe the experience of watching stock car racing.

“An audience comprised of families, dedicated fans and teams watch on as racers engage in high speeds and full-on contact. Spectators can get up close to the cars and drivers, talk to them and take pictures; there’s an informal atmosphere, and drivers love meeting fans.”

G: Do you have any personal experience in racing?

“I raced Big League BriSCA F1 for many years, and more latterly banger racing, until common sense and age took over and I became a promoter. For me, it’s the best job on the planet; it’s completely adrenaline-fuelled.”
