The Farm

The Suffolk Punch Trust is a working stud farm dedicated to preserving the rare and magnificent Suffolk Punch horse. The Colony Stud has a history stretching back 250 years, and currently has a herd of breeding mares, working horses, foals and stallions. Demonstrations take place in the stable area, showing visitors how the horses are handled, braided and put in a harness.

Rabbits and guinea pigs can also be found in the pets paddock, and rare breeds of Native Black Pigs, Red Poll cattle, Suffolk sheep and Ixworth chickens also inhabit the farm. As well as providing a history of the breed, the heritage museum offers up an insight into rural life with wheelwright and blacksmith displays, along with a collection of artefacts, vintage items and an original Ferguson tractor. Guests can also browse the gift shop, stroll along one of the walking routes, relax in the picnic area or enjoy some homemade refreshments in the on-site cafe.
