Inveraray Jail breathes life into 19th century justice and prison life, inviting curious history lovers to explore its corridors and cells. The museum gives visitors a chance to witness courtroom trials as well as get a taste of what living and labour conditions were like within the walls. Various costumed characters such as the Warder and prisoners are on hand to discuss their world and shed further light on how the prison operated. Entry (and escape) is available for two adults (usually £9.50 each), or families of two adults and two children (£5.25 each) under 16 years of age.

The Merchant

Celebrating its 25th anniversary as a tourist attraction, Inveraray Jail is a living museum situated on the banks of Loch Fyne. As well as showing off the 19th-century prison through live inhabitants, it makes use of various exhibits as well as hands-on activities and demonstrations. The corridors and cells of the attraction are occasionally used for ghost hunts, with private and educational tours also available.
