What advice would you give to someone who has never been ice skating before and is worried they won’t be able to do it?
"Ice skating can seem a bit daunting at first but don't worry - even the most experienced of skaters take a tumble now and again. Bend your knees, lean forward and make sure you take small pushes. Keeping your feet close together is also important as you will have better control of your skates. Skating takes practice but once you've grasped it, it's a lot of fun."
What’s an impressive skill that’s relatively easy to pick up?
"Once you are quite confident at ice skating, the next challenge could be raising one of your legs so that you are skating on just one foot. This is simple if you have good balance. The longer you can hold it, the more impressive it is."
What other skills does ice skating usually improve?
"Skating is a great cardiovascular workout and it tones major muscle groups such as your legs, abs and lower back. It is also a great way to improve your balance and posture."
What do you enjoy most about your job?
"The excitement it brings. Whether that's watching figure skaters show off their skills in a high-level competition, cheering on a hockey team or seeing families just having a whale of a time together."
