As stipulated in The Fine Print, the hug must be delivered with emotion (e.g. eyes closed) and last at least five seconds.

According to the organisers behind National Hug Day, there’s a whole heap of benefits to hugging, from increasing oxytocin, a hormone associated with “happiness,” to reducing stress. In those situations, it is advised to ask first before hugging.
