To celebrate National Hug Day on 21 January, we’re giving you the chance to experience a hug from a chosen loved one or admirer. Simply print out and ‘redeem’ by giving to the recipient who will dutifully hug you back in return. As stipulated in The Fine Print, the hug must be delivered with emotion (e.g. eyes closed) and last at least five seconds.
According to the organisers behind National Hug Day, there’s a whole heap of benefits to hugging, from increasing oxytocin, a hormone associated with “happiness,” to reducing stress. Find out more here. The organisers state that reasonable care should be taken with those who are either uncomfortable with public affection or their reaction to a hug is unknown. In those situations, it is advised to ask first before hugging.
