Your detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi

Arrive at Hanoi Airport. After completing the customs formalities, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter. Check in to your hotel.

Day 2: Discover Hanoi and its Old Quarter

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, embark on a guided walking tour of Old Hanoi, sampling the city's culinary specialities along the way. Depart with your guide and immerse yourself in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter.

Discover the Hang Be Market and walk through districts selling jewellery, scarves and cakes. Pass by the ancient Bach Ma Temple and the gates of the citadel. Continue to Dong Xuan Market and Hang Duong Street, where you will find stalls selling dried fruit and vegetables. Then visit the Cau Dong Temple and Cha Cha Street, followed by the Hai Thuong Lan Ong medicinal street and the toy street. Next, explore the district selling silk and the street dedicated to lanterns and paper decorations. Finally, take a short break around Hoan Kiem Lake and visit St Joseph's Cathedral and the Ly Quoc Su Temple. Throughout the tour, you will have the opportunity to sample Vietnamese specialities such as spring rolls, bánh cuốn and bún thang.

Here is some information about Hanoi: built on the site of the ancient citadel of Dai La, Hanoi was first chosen as the capital of Vietnam in 1010 by King Ly Thai To under the name Thang Long, meaning "city of the ascending dragon". It was also called Dong Kinh (Eastern Capital), a name distorted by Europeans into Tunquin and then Tonkin. This referred to the northern part of the country (now Bac Bo) during the colonial era. The name Hanoi did not appear until 1831. It is composed of "ha", meaning "river", and "noi", meaning "on this side". The city is indeed located on this side of the Red River. The numerous lakes dotting the city are pools left behind by the Red River as it moved eastward over the centuries. Hanoi's old quarter is fascinating to visit and ideal for photography!

Day 3: Cruise and overnight stay on board, on Ha Long Bay

Have breakfast at the hotel.

Depart for Ha Long Bay by minibus in the morning. You will board your junk around 12:30pm. Ha Long Bay, which was listed as a "natural beauty" World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993, stretches for hundreds of kilometres. The jagged shapes of these karst peaks create an unusual landscape. The site's exceptional value centres on its submerged karst limestone formations, which rise in remarkable pillars displaying a variety of coastal erosion features, such as arches and caves. This creates a landscape of natural majesty. This is a must for photography enthusiasts.

Lunch will be served at around 1:00pm, after which the cruise will begin.

The first stop will be at around 3:00pm to visit Sung Sot Cave. From around 4:00pm, you can relax or swim at Titov Beach, or climb to the top of the island for panoramic views of Ha Long Bay.

At 5pm, return to the boat and continue sailing while admiring the wonderful sunset.

At around 7:00pm, a Vietnamese meal will be served.

Overnight stay in your cabin.

All cabins have a double bed or two single beds, a private shower room and air conditioning. You can enjoy traditional Vietnamese cuisine as well as a variety of seafood from Ha Long Bay.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4: Ha Long Bay - Hanoi - Da Nang - Hoi An

Enjoy breakfast on the boat and take part in a Tai Chi session.

For those who wish to do so, there is the option of kayaking in the Bo Nau area. At around 10:00am, there will be a Vietnamese cooking class. Then, return to the port, passing the fishing villages of Ba Hang and Dinh Huong, as well as the islands of Cho Da and Ga Choi. Enjoy lunch on board before disembarking at around 1:00pm.

Then it's back to Hanoi for a transfer to the airport. Fly to Da Nang. You will be welcomed by your driver. Transfer to your hotel in Hoi An. Check into your hotel.

Day 5: A day in Hoi An

Breakfast at the hotel.

Depart from your hotel at around 8am for a day of discovering Vietnamese cuisine. Meet your host and the other participants, then transfer to a local market. Your guide will show you around and help you find the ingredients for your cooking class recipes.

Afterwards, take a 35-minute boat trip to a village on a small island in the middle of the Hoi An river delta and observe the local fishermen casting their nets as part of their daily routine. Upon arrival, you will be offered a "Sinh To", a typical Vietnamese fruit drink. As you enjoy your drink, you will have the opportunity to experience rural life and meet your hostess.

At the family home, you will learn how to make rice paper for the famous spring rolls. You can even make your own pancakes and try out your hostess's stone mill, which she uses to make rice flour. Then, you will return to the bamboo house to prepare four traditional dishes.

* A vegetarian menu is available on request: bánh xèo, grilled aubergine, papaya salad and tofu with mushrooms.

All that's left to do is enjoy your meal in your host's house or garden. Pumpkin soup and a dessert called "Xi ma" (sesame jelly cake) will also be served.

You will then take the boat back to Hoi An. You will return around 3pm.

Day 6: Hoi An - Da Nang - Phu Quoc

Transfer to Da Nang Airport. Fly to Phu Quoc Island in the Gulf of Thailand. You will be welcomed by your driver, who will transfer you to your hotel.

Enjoy lunch and dinner at your leisure. Check in to your hotel and enjoy an overnight stay.
