DAY 1 | Taipei
When you arrive at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), a private car will take you to your hotel (without a guide). You will then have the rest of the day free.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
DAY 2 | Visit to Taipei
First, you will visit the impressive Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a monument to the former president. Next, stop for photos at the Grand Hotel Taipei, another important historical site. Along the way to the Grand Hotel, your guide will provide an overview of the Presidential Office Building, a symbolic and historic site in Taipei.
After taking photos, you will head to the National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine, where the highlight is the Changing of the Guard ceremony.
Finally, you will visit the National Palace Museum, famous for its collection of nearly 700,000 ancient Chinese artefacts and works of art spanning 8,000 years and several dynasties.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 3 | Sun Moon Lake
On the first morning of your tour of Taiwan, you will set off from Taipei city centre and head to Sun Moon Lake, a national area of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of the island.
Sun Moon Lake, the largest freshwater lake on the island, is split in half by Lalu Island. The eastern side resembles the sun, while the western side resembles a waxing moon, hence the lake's unique name. This picturesque region is also home to the Thao people, one of Taiwan's indigenous groups. Thanks to its rich indigenous culture and abundant natural beauty, Sun Moon Lake has become one of Taiwan's most popular tourist destinations.
After lunch, you will visit Ita Thao, an indigenous village where you can gain insight into the Thao people's culture and way of life. Next, you will admire the grandeur of the Ci'en pagoda, an iconic monument on Sun Moon Lake built by the late President Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother.
Next, you will arrive at the serene Xuanzang Temple, a Buddhist sanctuary dedicated to the venerable monk Xuanzang. Then, your journey will take you to the imposing Wenwu Temple, comprising three halls dedicated to the God of War and the God of Literature.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 4 | Tainan to Kaohsiung
Begin the second day of your Taiwanese adventure with a delicious breakfast to set you up for a new day of exploration. Board the bus that will take you to Tainan, Taiwan's oldest city, which is famous for its abundance of historic buildings and incredible heritage.
Next, visit Fort Zeelandia, which was built by the Dutch East India Company during its 38-year administration of western Taiwan. The original fortress was almost destroyed by the British army in the 19th century but was later rebuilt by the Japanese.
Then, take a leisurely stroll along the historic Anping Old Street. Situated to the east of Fort Zeelandia, this historic street was established by the Dutch over 300 years ago and is renowned as the first officially named street in Taiwan. As well as its fascinating history, Anping Old Street is also renowned for its local specialities. Make sure you sample some of the delicacies here to add a delightful culinary experience to your historic trip to Tainan.
Next, head to the romantic port city of Kaohsiung, the most populous city in southern Taiwan. Upon arrival, your first stop will be the renowned Fo Guang Shan Monastery (FGS), a significant Buddhist monastery established by Venerable Master Hsing Yun in 1967. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to speak with a knowledgeable monk who will explain the doctrines and development of Buddhism, the most widely practised religion in Taiwan.
In the evening, you can unwind in a conveniently located hotel surrounded by department stores, supermarkets, and pharmacies.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 5 | Kenting National Park - Taitung
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you will begin your journey south towards the border, where Taiwan's first national park awaits.
Celebrated for its coastal geological formations, picturesque landscapes and rich marine biodiversity, Kenting National Park is the product of a unique combination of crustal deformation and tropical climate. Kenting is also a paradise for surfers and divers.
On the third day of your tour of Taiwan, you will stop at Maopitou, which literally means "the cat's nose" and is so named because it resembles a colossal crouching cat when viewed from afar. You will also stop at Chuanfan Rock, which means "the sail rock" and is another distinctive natural formation that resembles either the sail of a ship or former US President Richard Nixon. You will also visit the Eluanbi Lighthouse, a Qing Dynasty construction recognised as one of the Eight Views of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period, and Longpan Park, a coral limestone plateau overlooking the Pacific Ocean which has been shaped by rainwater erosion over time.
Your journey will then take you to Taitung via the scenic South Link Highway, which offers great views of the ever-changing scenery.
In the evening, you can enjoy the pleasures of staying at a peaceful spa in Zhiben in Taitung County. Zhiben is renowned for its carbonate hot springs, which are said to improve circulation and relieve fatigue, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 6 | East Coast
After a good night's sleep and a delicious breakfast, your 5-day tour of Taiwan will continue as you travel along the east coast, the last unspoilt place on the island. Wherever you go, you are sure to be amazed by the region's enchanting natural beauty. You will visit some of the most impressive sites along the way, including Xiaoyehliu, Sanxiantai, Shitiping and Fanshuliao, all of which are remarkable for their unique geological features.
First stop is Xiaoyehliu (literally "Little Yehliu", or officially "Fugang Geopark"). This area is famous for its natural rock formations. Here, you can view these unique land formations up close, which have been shaped over time by meteoric and marine erosion.
Next, you will visit Sanxiantai (literally "the terrace of the three immortals"), which features an offshore island and coral reefs. A bridge across the sea links the mainland to the island — it is a landmark that is well-known in the East Coast National Scenic Area.
You will then stop at Shitiping (literally "stone steps"). This well-developed marine erosion terrace features promontories along the coastline that have been eroded by seawater over millions of years.
Next, you will visit Fanshuliao, a unique canyon often regarded as a smaller version of Taroko Gorge.
In the evening, you can enjoy the pleasure of staying in Jiaoxi, Yilan County.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 7 | Yilan to Taipei
Today's adventure begins with an early departure from Yilan, a region renowned for its picturesque landscapes and hot springs. After a short drive, you'll reach the first stop on your tour, the Kavalan Distillery. As Taiwan's leading whisky producer, Kavalan has earned an international reputation for its exquisite single malts.
Next, you'll continue your exploration at the National Centre for Traditional Arts. This cultural gem showcases Taiwan's traditional arts and crafts in a beautifully designed setting. Stroll through the artisans' workshops and watch master craftsmen creating delicate wood carvings, intricate paper cut-outs, and exquisite pottery. Take your time to explore the interactive exhibits, and perhaps try your hand at making a unique souvenir.
You will then return to Taipei, reaching your hotel or designated drop-off point in the evening.
Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 8 | Departure
Spend your last moments in Taiwan at your leisure. You will be transferred to the airport by private car (without guide) for your departure flight.
