Your detailed itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Muscat

Welcome and assistance at Muscat airport, transfer to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.

Day 2 - Muscat

Departure for your visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Then a visit to the Royal Opera House Muscat, the first opera house in the Arabian Peninsula. This grandiose architectural achievement symbolises the great attention that Sultan Qaboos bin Said, a passionate music lover, paid to the cultural wealth of the Sultanate and its architecture.

Continue on to "historic Muscat". Photo stop in front of the Al Alam Palace, the former palace of the Sultan, with its blue and gold façade, worthy of the Thousand and One Nights. From here you will have a view of the two forts of Jalali and Mirani. Then, a visit to the Al Zubair Museum, a private foundation housed within a restored palace, exhibiting, in particular, jewellery, traditional costumes, and everyday Omani object of great quality.

You will get to stroll along the Corniche in Mutra, the city's other historical district, before venturing into the country's largest covered souk. Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 3 - Barka, Beit al Ghasham, Wadi Beni Awf, Nizwa

Departure to the Batinah province and the port of Barka, where fishermen bring last night's catch each morning. Visit to Beit al Ghasham, a stately home hidden in a muddy palm grove. Pass by the fort of Nakhl. You will then follow the Jebel Hajjar trail. 3 hours of trails passing by the magnificent Wadi Beni 'Awf and the spectacular "Snake Canyon", with photo stops and short walks along the way.

Journey to Nizwa. The former capital of the sultanate, an intellectual and religious centre, a citadel in the heart of the mountains - the citadel's huge and imposing tower-dungeon is particularly remarkable. After the visit, stroll through Nizwa Old Town. Settle in and dinner at the hotel.

Day 4 - Jabrin, Bahla, Al Hamra, Jebel esh Shams, Nizwa

Drive to Jabrin and visit to the beautifully restored castle. Passing by Bahla, a very old sultanate city and an important medieval site. Photo stop in front of the gigantic fortress and stroll through the Old Town and to the souq. Journey to Al Hamra. In the heart of the ancient city, you will pay a visit to the living museum of Bait Al Safah, a magnificent residence where men and women show you the ancient rituals of the Omani culture, its crafts, and its culinary delights.

Then, ascent by 4x4 to Jebel esh-Shams, "the mountain of the sun". Continue on to the Grand Canyon of Oman. At an altitude of more than 3,000 metres, we reach one of the most spectacular landscapes the country has to offer. Pass through the Wadi Ghul, the second deepest canyon in Oman. Stop off at the village of Misfah, a little gem, perched at an altitude of 1000 m on the edge of a canyon, in the heart of an arid mountain landscape. Return to Nizwa. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 - Birkat al Mawz, Al Mudayrib, Wadi Beni, Khaled, Wahiba Desert

Breakfast at the hotel. The day begins in Birkat Al Mauz, a small town famous for its terraced cultivation and its flower and palm plantations. Departure for Al Mudayrib, immersed in lush green vegetation. Drive to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the most famous wadis in the country. Large emerald green pools of water lined with slender palm trees and surrounded by deep canyons. Option to swim.

Departure by 4x4, heading for the Wahiba desert, a vast and incredible dune complex. Stop to enjoy the Bedouin hospitality of the Wahiba tribe, who have been living here for thousands of years. Settling in at the camp and 4x4 trip to the dunes to witness the magic of the sunset, which offers a new experience every time.

Day 6 - Ja'alan, Ashkara, Ras al Hadd

Breakfast within the calm of the camp. Departure by 4x4 to as far as the tarred road, where you will meet your bus. Passing by Ja'lan beni Bu Ali and its astonishing 11th century mosque, topped with 52 domes. Drive north along the coast to the fishing village of al Ashkara and the cliffs of al Khabbah.

Continue on towards Ras Al Hadd, settling in at the hotel by the edge of the sea of Oman, where you will have some leisure time to make the most of the sea and the beach.

After dinner, you will travel to Ras al-Jinz (10 km), the easternmost point of the Arabian Peninsula and an important nesting site for the endangered green turtle. Watching the turtles lay their eggs on the beach, protected by the sandstone cliffs, is a fascinating experience. The magic of the place makes the display all the more extraordinary. (Please note that turtle sightings are not guaranteed and depend entirely on nature - the best season is from April to November).

Day 7 - Sour, Wadi Shab, Bimah, Muscat

Breakfast at the hotel. Journey to Sour. The city built at sea level, along a winding lagoon, bears witness to the traditional maritime vocation of the Sultanate of Oman. The old district of Aïja boasts a certain charm and appears to have remained unchanged for centuries. Visit a small shipyard where the tradition of dhow making continues to this day.

A little further on, the Wadi Shab opens up, and you will walk up its increasingly narrow path, with clear water basins lined with gardens and date palms. Walk in Wadi Shab for one to two hours, depending on your preference. Continuing on towards the capital, taking the road that runs alongside the Indian Ocean, including a stop off at the Bimah Sinkhole, a natural curiosity in the form of an enormous collapsed crater, filled with seawater.

Farewell dinner at the Beit al Luban restaurant, an institution and a Mecca of Omani cuisine. Settle in for your overnight stay at the hotel

Day 8 - Departure from Muscat

Transfer and departure to Muscat airport.
