About This Deal
The Deal
Drivers can take part in a choice of day-long Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) course, running from 9am on selected dates. Contributing to the necessary 35 hours of training every five years to maintain the qualification, the courses cover a variety of areas from customer service to fuel efficient driving and the manual handling of loads. Participants will also have their CPC training logged with the appropriate Government department, as well as pay a £8.75 (£1.75 an hour) surcharge directly to them.
Available Courses:
- Driver Hours and Tachographs
This course covers regulations and guidance relating to hours spent on the road, rest periods and record keeping. It also looks at double-manned vehicles and approaches for trains and ferries.
- Manual Handling, Vehicle Loading and Unloading, and Restraint
Safe loading, abnormal loads and the manual moving of loads using various techniques and aids are all looked into. This option also touches on restraints in various weather conditions, calculating load weights and theft prevention.
- Daily Walk Around Checks, Defect Reporting and Penalties, Fines and Immobilisation
This option outlines various checks before a vehicle sets off or after it arrives, as well as associated legal requirements. The course also covers risk assessments, accounting for the vehicle's characteristics and the various forces at work on it.
- Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving, Driving Skills and Fatigue
Course content looks at route planning, accounting for restrictions due to vehicle size, delays, diversions, tolls and fuel efficiency. It also examines the management of stress and fatigue on the road, and areas relating to diet and physical fitness.
- Customer Services in the Transport Industry
Communication skills are worked on, along with knowledge of types of customers, their requirements, and putting the customer first.
