- Musa 'Ever Red' is a half-hardy perennial banana plant
- The hardiest red banana for garden or conservatory
- Massive green leaves striped with maroon-red
- Perfect for tropical-looking planting schemes
- This fast-growing banana will develop a woody stem with maturity
- Ideal for forming a dramatic, architectural centrepiece
- This variety originates in the foothills of the Himalayas
- Boasts thicker, stronger leaves, which are more windproof and colourful
- Bananas thrive outdoors in mild areas if given some protection
- In very mild areas, grow Musa in any moist, fertile, well-drained, with shelter from strong winds
- Protect the trunk with fleece, straw or hessian over winter
- Young plants should not be overwintered outdoors
- In frost-prone areas, Banana plants are best grown in containers and moved to warm, frost-free greenhouses or conservatories in winter
- When growing in containers, use a soil-based compost such as John Innes No. 3
- At maturity expect a height of 4m (13ft) and spread of 4m (13ft)
- Supplied as a pot-grown plant in a 9cm nursery pot
- For best garden performance position in full sun when planting
