The Kings Head sates appetites in regal style with dishes such as the Portuguese-inspired piri-piri chicken breast with pan-fried cabbage, garlic, smoked bacon and hand-cut chunky chips (£13.95), or the bitoque 6oz minute steak marinated in garlic and olive and served with a fried egg, chunky chips and salad (£13.95). Further options include cod and salmon fishcakes with mixed salad (£10.95), and portobello mushroom filled with wilted spinach and feta cheese and accompanied by seasonal vegetables and new potatoes (£10.95). Each diner's meal is accompanied by a glass of wine (£3.50).

The Merchant

Family-run rural coaching inn The King's Head provides homemade cuisine and homey accommodation in the village of Syresham. Housed in a converted barn, the establishment's guest rooms are classically styled and airy. The restaurant, meanwhile, offers a menu of English classics like pies and fish and chips, while Portuguese dishes deliver flavours from farther afield. A bar area offers a broad selection of tipples to enjoy in front of an open fire.
