A family of four can explore the many attractions at The World of Glass between Monday and Saturday, until 5pm. Two adults and two children can take in the historical elements, witness art in various forms, glass blowing demonstrations and a film show about the making of glass.
The Merchant
The World of Glass imparts a world of history and art on the people of St. Helens. The museum houses over 7,000 items within the St. Helen’s Heritage Collection and the Pilkington Glass Collection. The former has objects from the mining era, war time, Egyptology and pieces that celebrate social history, while the latter boasts a collection of glass items and sculptures from around the world. Also ready for viewing is an art gallery displaying a wide variety of works, a two-tonne Manchester Airport chandelier, the Artisan Gift Shop and a live glass blowing demonstration. Groups can also stop for a bite to eat in the Kaleidoscope Cafe, and enjoy a range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and hot and cold drinks.
