About This Deal

Few cranes can boast awards such as its Grade A listed structure listing, plus countless visitors each day, but Titan Clydebank has achieved both these victories. A family of up to six sightseers can take an hour-long tour of the Titan and its surroundings, starting at the ticket office, with its exhibition and shop. A minibus will then escort tourists to the visitor centre – packed full of ship models, photos and memorabilia – and they’ll go 150 feet up the crane itself for stunning views of the River Clyde.

Groupon Asks

Groupon finds out about the architectural awards won by Titan Clydebank, and about adventurous opportunities for daredevils.

What is the Titan Clydebank?
It’s a crane that was restored in the last decade. It is now the only remains of the historic John Browns shipyard, which was originally home to battleships like the HMS Hood. The crane is a popular tourist attraction – and it even illuminates spectacularly at night.

What activities are available at the site?
As well as the tour of the site, there are a number of activities offered throughout the summer. The Big Swing sees daredevils swing upside-down over the River Clyde at 70 miles per hour. The bungee jump pumps the adrenaline still further with a 164-foot jump toward the river. The charity abseil is a 150-foot, freefall abseil, completed for fundraising purposes.

How can private events be accommodated?
Private parties can hire out the crane for special occasions, be they corporate or social – or even for a wedding. The jib deck can accommodate up to 55 guests, while the new visitor centre fits 30 people and has a SMART board and facilities for refreshments.

What are some interesting facts about the crane?
It’s 150 feet tall and weighs 800 tons. Last year, it won the Engineering Heritage Award from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

Reviews

Average rating: 4.5 stars TripAdvisor (39 Reviews)

The Titan Clydebank scored a lofty 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. Reviewers were keen to praise the information at the site, as well as the informative staff, though special mentions went to the views from the top of the crane itself. A few visitors also went on to recommend wearing flat shoes as the observation deck's floor made wearing heels somewhat tricky.
