Day 1: Edinburgh to Inverness and onward to Country House Hotel
Stop At: Inverness, Inverness, Scottish Highlands, Scotland
1st class train journey from Edinburgh Waverley station to Inverness. Accompanied by your Scottish Guide, relax and enjoy the scenic journey, passing through beautiful scenery and Highland towns such as Stirling, Pitlochry, Dalwinnie, Kingussie and Aviemore. The direct train journey takes just under four hours. From Inverness the group will have a short taxi ride to Coul House Hotel, for a two-night stay.
Please note there will be time to purchase a snack lunch at Waverley station before the train leaves. Your Scottish guide will have the train tickets for all passengers, which allows access into the 1st class lounge while waiting for the train.

After your delicious Scottish breakfast, there's no need to check out, as you will be back at Coul House for a second night. Your luxury small coach will arrive and drive the group to the Culloden Battlefield site. (max 30 minutes) Arriving at the site, your Scottish guide will tell you the story of how the 1746 battle played out on Drumossie Moor, explaining the background and the outcomes, and set you thinking about how people chose which side to fight for that day. What happened to families who chose to fight on both sides - the British and the Jacobite armies? And what chain of events did they set off, affecting the way the Highlands looks today. If you have Scottish ancestors, you can see source material on how different clans took sides. The visitor centre is interactive and very well laid out. Having your dedicated guide on-hand, means you will be well-briefed on the history before you arrive at Culloden.

Stop At: Clava Cairns, Balnuaran of Clava, IV2 5EU Scotland
At Clava Cairns your guide will take you back to the very early Scottish people. This is a bronze age burial chamber site, which is exceptionally well preserved and a fantastic example of the distant history of Highland Scotland, dating back about 4,000 years. Hear the theories about why they are there?

Stop At: Loch Ness, Scotland
Enjoy two-hour Loch Ness cruise , boarding at Dochgarroch lock. You’ll experience a breath-taking journey that takes you along Thomas Telford’s famous Caledonian Canal and, of course, across the legendary waters of Loch Ness. Enjoy the stunning scenery of the Great Glen, and panoramic views of Aldourie Castle, Bona Lighthouse and the spectacular Urquhart Castle.

After your final Scottish breakfast at Coul House, taxis will transfer you to Inverness railway station. Enjoy return train journey back to Edinburgh, again in reserved 1st class carriage, arriving early afternoon. Tour ends.
