Stop At: The Haunch Of Venison
1 Minster Street, England SP1 1TB
Steeped in over 700 years of history, The Haunch of Venison is one of the region’s oldest and most intriguing pubs, with records dating back to around 1320 when it housed craftsmen building Salisbury Cathedral’s iconic spire. Step inside, and you’ll discover a treasure trove of quirks and legends. Known for its traditional feel, with a Venison dish always on the menu, the pub’s charm extends to its unique features, like the marble-tiled floor, repurposed from the nearby Cathedral, and the rare "Horsebox" bar. This cozy nook boasts one of only six surviving pewter-topped bars in the country, along with a beautifully carved wooden arch and several rare features, it is rumoured that Winston Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower once plotted in the Horsebox Bar while planning the D-Day landings in 1944. While the Haunch of Venison is our preferred choice due to its historical province, other pubs, cafes, and restaurants are also available should you like to dine elsewhere.
