Once considered a little risqué, leather skirts have shifted up the chic stakes and become a stylish gal's must have. Available in a variety of styles for day and evening wear, here are some ideas on how to wear a leather skirt and work the look into your wardrobe.
Let's get a couple of things straight first...
- don't team your leather skirt with a bra top and thigh high boots unless you want to rival Rhianna or Pretty Woman (and maybe you do, each to their own!).
- if you're dipping a cautious toe into the trend, start with a faux leather aka pleather version. The real thing is hard to beat, but there are some great (and very convincing) options out there.
- decide on the overall image you're aiming for before you start - streamlined pencil skirt, cheeky pleated mini or daring voluminous midi?

Work wear
If you work in a modern office environment, there's no reason why a little leather chic can't be incorporated into your working day. If you want to know how to wear a leather skirt in work, it’s simple - tuck a crisp white shirt or fine knit into a midi or knee length pencil skirt and add heels. Or opt for on-the-knee skater style with a collared shirt under a fitted jumper or blazer and pair with chunky loafers.

Day wear
A-line, skater or pleats are daytime friendly for an on-trend smart or casual daytime vibe. Add a fitted cashmere knit over A-line, a boxy jumper over pleats and a fitted shirt or slouchy cardi with skater style. All styles are available in mini, knee-length and midi (Zara has a great range) and work with ankle boots, brogues or trainers (Office or Schuh).

Evening wear
A leather skirt is more forgiving and accessible than trousers for evening wear and adds an edge while keeping it classy. While a pencil skirt seems the obvious option, I'm also a fan of fine pleated leather skirts from mini to midi length. Team either with a silky or embellished loose blouse for an elegant evening look - contrasting fabrics work best with leather. Party gals can take things up a notch with a loose cropped top.

Day to evening
Lots of leather skirts are versatile enough to work for both day and evening wear, depending on the length and what you pair them with. I've been wearing a black A-line faux leather skirt (Zara) with a fitted fine knit, mid heel ankle boots and short fitted jacket for daywear. For evening I switch to a silky boxy top, heels and a faux fur jacket.

I also love the look of a few inches of leather skirt peeking out under an oversized jumper or cape for daywear... Next have some gorgeous ones in stock at great prices. A leather skirt is a quick and easy way to update your wardrobe with very little effort!
