Choose somewhere better.
The service was extremely poor. The food uninspired.
We were one standard diner and one vegetarian. We were taken to our seats and I glanced through the menu. Lunchtime options included haloumi, hummus and a lovely variety of vegetarian offerings. I was anticipating something better than the dull egg or cheese sandwich.
When drinks were brought, my expectations plummeted, a mug of tea / flat coffee.
Food was brought from the kitchen with a smile. That was nice. However, sandwiches proved equally disappointing as the drinks, absolutely no sign of the creativity of the bar menu. So much for an afternoon tea being a treat. It felt like a visit to a 1970's motorway service station, basic and cheap. And further, there was no consideration for the vegetarian with veggie and meat sandwiches being piled on top of each other rather than separated. This is pretty distasteful for vegetarians. Thoughtless.
Cake selection was fine. No complaints nor plaudits.
Throughout the meal no one came to ask if everything was ok. We had to walk backwards and forwards on multiple occasions across the virtually empty room to get cutlery, extra milk, you name it, despite there being generally two unoccupied staff members behind the bar.
Finally, and this left me speechless... . Once the four people behind the bar (moaning about their work T&Cs), took our order for extra coffee, we were then charged £7.90 for what I was expecting to be a top up. Priceless. Or rather, not.
Overall, particularly unimpressed.
