Family visits to Shepherds Place Farm give animal lovers the opportunity to get acquainted with a whole menagerie of creatures. The Graizelound-based site accommodates a variety of rodents and other animals such as meerkats, ducks and geese, wallabies, deer, a pony, as well as exotic species including tortoises and rheas. The farm aims to make visits both fun and educational, allowing curious visitors to find out about the life cycle of eggs inside the incubator room, and possibly even handle real chicks. There are more hands-on experiences to be had at the guinea pig village, where guests can hold and learn how to care for the rodents, as well as the rabbits. Elsewhere, an on-site cafe serves hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, or groups can relax in the picnic area.

We first went here quite a few years ago, it was basic and the owner told us his plans to improve - although there is now the ice cream parlour & diner, nothing else has changed, still a small farm that takes 15 mins to walk around. If it wasn't for the bouncy castle & sandpit we'd have been in & out in half an hour! He has plans to build an indoor play area but I'm sure he said that all those years ago! Top tip go on a nice day, not a rainy day or the bouncy castle won't be up! Food was good value so would return to eat but wouldn't for the'farm'.

Mixed feelings! I went here at the weekend with my friend and her two twin girls, who are 3. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The food was good and there was a good choice of ice creams for the kids. Nice to be able to sit inside and out. There was a bouncy castle which was good and a small play area and sand pit which again were good. The kids sit on toys which were doted around were pretty ancient, but we didn't mind that as we weren't expecting any. The main disappointment was the actual farm aspect, the main reason we went. There wasn't a lot of animals to be seen. There was a lot of nettles around the aminal pens which made it difficult for the kids to get up close. The areas around them were a little scruffy if I am being really honest...some of the animals looked a little worse for wear to. Just as we were coming to the end there was a dead chick at the front of the owl enclosure in the cage which the girls spotted and we managed to convince them it was just a feather (luckily). It's got a lot of potential and there were parts of the day which were OK.
