About Garforth Yoga

Hello, my name is Jennifer. I begun my yoga journey in what seems to be a very typical way in our fast paced modern lives. I joined my first class in the hope it would help to ease the chronic back pain I had been suffering from. I am pleased to say it did help to stretch out the stiff muscles and strengthen them to the point were I now only suffer infrequent bouts of back pain which are usually more to do with over doing it in the garden or gym!I very quickly fell in love with yoga and developed a thirst to learn more about it. This led me to sign up for the British Wheel of Yoga’s foundation course. During the year it took me to complete the course I had the opportunity not only to develop my asana and pranayama practice but also to learn about the history of yoga and to study some of the ancient texts such as The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Hath Yoga Pradipika. This helped me to deepen my practice and increase my appetite to learn more.Once I had completed the foundation course I was accepted onto one the British Wheel of Yogas teaching diplomas courses. My end goal wasn’t necessarily at this point to become a yoga teacher but to use the course to develop my yoga knowledge and practice further. The course wasn’t a straight forward one but after over coming a few bumps in the road I qualified in April 2009 so I have been teaching for thirteen years now!I feel as though postural alignment is crucial and therefore this has a strong focus in all of my classes. I love to adapt postures making them more attainable for every one, I love this aspect of yoga. Overall I feel as though I am a calm teacher with lots of understanding of my core subject and ultimately love to pass this onto as many people as I can.
