From Our Editors

Encompassed by views of the Welsh mountains and the trickling waters of the Dee Esturary, the award-winning Sheldrakes is a restored sailing club that serves up modern European fare. The establishment, celebrated by Taste Liverpool, who presented it with a Restaurant Accreditation, is reminiscent of a rustic Greek taverna with white-washed walls, exposed brickwork, and wooden furnishings. The ever-changing seasonal menu is garnished with Mediterranean offerings in the shape of duck, venison, and freshly-prepared seafood dishes, while a traditional Sunday carvery is also in place at weekends.

Fabulous setting. Quirky interior. Food OK. Would not pay the full price for it.

Firstly we waited approximately 30 minutes before we receive our starters, I was disappointed that we never had the fish meze starter, which we’ve had in the past with the chataeubriand offer, the starter was x4 dips, 2 of which were tasteless, the chataeubriand was very nice thou. Cheese board nice, however desert was nice but was not told what it was, I asked the waiter what the green cakes was , he replied “ he didn’t know” he thought it might be made with pistachios nuts, if so, we were not told about this , as I may of had a nut allergy, I feel it would be nice to have the menu on the table to explain what the menu consisted off, the waiter still did not return to say what the desert was.. this needs to be looked into , I also heard other tables saying the service was poor, I can honest say the service was not very good,. My husband was very disappointed with the smell of urine in the men’s toilets , all the floor soaking wet, and urinals overflowing. Very disappointing. Not enough staff waiting on . This needs addressing urgently !!!

Lovely place with outlook over the Dee. Food was very well presented and tasted good. Not large portions but with 4 courses they were plenty. Staff friendly and helpful. Very good value for the money. Would recommend and we would go again.

Lovely location watching the sunset over the Dee estuary. Excellent four course meal. Meze starter dips seemed to be all home made and were delicious. Chateaubriand beautifully cooked with lovely accompaniments. Desert selection also very nice. Probably didn't need the cheese course - there was more than enough without it, but when it's placed in front of you it's hard to resist! Also sensibly priced drinks and good service. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
