From Our Editors

A serene corner of Cheshire countryside holds the 18th-century house, formal gardens, chapel and parkland of Capesthorne Hall. The imposing symmetry of the property's facade showcases classic Jacobean-style architecture. 16th-century stained glass windows illuminate a lavish interior with its unique collection of antique and ebony furniture, marble sculptures and bronzes. Walls are adorned by historical paintings, portraiture and large mirrors reflecting delicate chandeliers. Outside, a spectrum of perennial plants, maples, cherry trees and unusual 18th-century flora frame a tranquil spread of lakes and abundant wildlife. Visitors requiring refreshment can seek out Butlers Pantry, which serves homemade lakeside lunches, cream teas, ice cream and other treats.

Had a lovely day out at Capesthorne Hall. An old hall full of very interesting items of furniture paintings and history, well laid out. All the staff were friendly and willing to talk about the hall. The gardens were well kept and wonderful to walk through, we found the woods very peaceful. The café offered a good range of food and drink. Would recommend a visit to anyone.

Magnificently furnished and beautiful Hall with welcoming informative staff. Went with 12 year old granddaughter. We both loved walking around it. The surrounding land is also a joy to behold.

My husband and I took my mum for the afternoon and really loved it. We started our walk around the beautiful garden overlooking the lake followed by the woodlands . We had lunch + cream scones overlooking the lake. The house was beautiful and staff lovely and friendly. Definitely recommend a visit .

A beautiful house and gardens, well maintained. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides in the house. Choice of cakes disappointing in the tearoom! Despite that spent a very pleasant afternoon here.
