From Our Editors

A serene corner of Cheshire countryside holds the 18th-century house, formal gardens, chapel and parkland of Capesthorne Hall. The imposing symmetry of the property's facade showcases classic Jacobean-style architecture. 16th-century stained glass windows illuminate a lavish interior with its unique collection of antique and ebony furniture, marble sculptures and bronzes. Walls are adorned by historical paintings, portraiture and large mirrors reflecting delicate chandeliers. Outside, a spectrum of perennial plants, maples, cherry trees and unusual 18th-century flora frame a tranquil spread of lakes and abundant wildlife. Visitors requiring refreshment can seek out Butlers Pantry, which serves homemade lakeside lunches, creams teas, ice creams and other treats.

What a lovely old hall. Spectacularly decked out for Christmas. As it is privately owned it is beautifully maintained throughout. Will definitely be visiting again when it re-opens in the Spring to visit the gardens as it was too foggy to see them last weekend!

A lovely day out the hall and gardens were dressed for Christmas. Signage from the Christmas market into the house could have been clearer, we were directed down steps from the market but then had to retrace our steps.

Lovely day out! The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas & filled with music & singing. Mulled wine & mince pie in the sunshine & a good craft fair. The grounds are extensive & it's pleasant to go for a stroll.

The Hall was beautifully decorated for Christmas including themed bedrooms, one of which was a Narnia scene that was stunning and magical. Lots of stalls to browse, entertainment from choirs and handbell ringers, and a delicious turkey barm washed down with mulled wine in the cafe. Highly recommended - would love to go again next year.

Thought £10.50 was a bit steep to pay. If there hadn't been some entertainment on you would have been through the house in about 30 minutes. I think £7.50 would have been a better price to pay. The choice in the restaurant was minimal with no choice st all for children.
