From Our Editors

A serene corner of Cheshire countryside holds the 18th-century house, formal gardens, chapel and parkland of Capesthorne Hall. The imposing symmetry of the property's facade showcases classic Jacobean-style architecture. 16th-century stained glass windows illuminate a lavish interior with its unique collection of antique and ebony furniture, marble sculptures and bronzes. Walls are adorned by historical paintings, portraiture and large mirrors reflecting delicate chandeliers. Outside, a spectrum of perennial plants, maples, cherry trees and unusual 18th-century flora frame a tranquil spread of lakes and abundant wildlife. Visitors requiring refreshment can seek out Butlers Pantry, which serves homemade lakeside lunches, cream teas, ice cream and other treats.

A delightful evening spent in this lovely house listening to various primary schools from the area singing festive songs together with a Christmas Fair.

Christmas at Capesthorne is magical. The house is decorated beautifully, the school choirs in the Friday are delightful and the Craft Fair always delivers. A perfect way to kick off the Festive Season!

The beauty of Capesthorne is that it feels like a true family home. The Christmas wreaths and tree are made and decorated by staff. The lord and lady are there to greet you, with either the lord or his son being Santa. It’s a warm and welcoming home that gives you a true sense of Christmas

Well worth a visit. Rooms are decorated fantastically with lovely christmas stalls and food. Make sure you print yr tickets before you go, although it does not state this on the groupon, the staff are adamant it does and ask you to queue up outside if u do not have a printed copy. We had 2 elderly ladies with us and luckily the staff were very understanding to let us complete the print out inside.

It was okay...but I feel that the children singing were used to drum up ticket sales at this event. I noticed that they were in a tiny room when not singing, and were not offered decent refreshments, despite being there for hours and providing free entertainment and their own audience. The craft fair was okay, and the house pretty, but there was certainly not enough to see for the full ticket price of £10.

Lovely house - however parking a bit of a nightmare due to very wet weather. Lots of cars stuck on field parking, seems little thought had been given to that problem. Otherwise, a good afternoon trip.
