From Our Editors

The historic 1861 Restaurant marvels passersby with its resemblance to an old Victorian station in the green surrounds of Cross Ash, Abergavenny. Set in the rural hills of Monmouthshire, the eatery is bordered by a white picket fence, while dark wooden beams and ebony tables decorate the interior. Where possible, produce is sourced from the local vegetable nursery, farmers, and butchers.

This is most definitely not your "run of the mill" restaurant. We would describe it as an eating experience, a very good one at that. A small but varied menu, this is fine dining so don't expect huge portions. We thought that the deal was very good value although the drinks were quite expensive, particularly diet cola. Starters and desserts average around £9 - £10. Overall a good experience.

Superb food ,excellent service. Be warned , however, they will charge you £3.75 for a bottle of water and they rather meanly surcharge you if you pay by credit card. Still a great meal but just ask for a carafe of tap water and settle the bill with a debit card or cash.
