Very disappointed they have filled in the pond which has been there since the hotel opened about 18/20 years ago, i was a frequent visitor to the hotel, bar and restaurant, also stayed over many times at various functions, as my business and offices were located nearby in Bugle Street for 30 years.

I ordered soup of the day (carrot) lovely consistency and looked appealing, but way too much salt, even for me! Main and dessert were "pork loin steak", I got a bog standard pork chop! With pavlova, which turned out to be, not layers of meringue with fruit and cream but more like an eaton mess! The food was nice but not as the menu stated. The sous chef was sent out to speak to me, may be the evening head chef felt it was below him, and stated he knew nothing about the soup, despite the waitress being instructed to ask them to taste it when it was sent back. He also stated that the loin steak was not supposed to be on the menu, the senior restaurant manager took our order, so if she didn't know, who is going to. And he had no answer for the difference between pavlova and eaton mess. Also is it not customary to over a bread roll and water with meals? I would welcome an answer from the hotel management.

I came for a meal on the groupon deal on Tuesday 14th July. We arrived and had a drink at the bar first and then went to get our table, the booking was not on the sheet and then the gentleman serving us assumed correctly that we were a groupon customer , we were seated with no choice given as to where e wanted seat unlike the 3 different lots of people after U.S. Who were given a choice. I noticed one other couple were on the groupon deal were dining at the time as the seating plan had groupon customer written on the table . I'm not sure if this is to help the waitresses realise which menu they need to give or if it s because the groupon customers are deemed second class, I can only assume the latter when it took me over 30 mins to get a drink , I could understand if it were busy however it was not and there were ample staff, to top it off the 3 groups of customers who came in behind us not only had their drinks but two of the tables actually had food in front of them before we had even been able to get a drink. I ordered a bottle of the Shiraz for myself and girlfriend , after a further 10 min wait the waiter came over with a glass of wine , I was very confused as to what the waiter must have thought when I pointed at the bottle of Shiraz on your wine list and e came with one glass presumably for the two of us to share. This mistake was quickly sorted and then when it came to ordering I ordered the fish and my girlfriend the chicken , I was then told the fish was out of stock , something I'm sure the waitress could be told me when she gave me the menu , there are only 4 main courses on it so it wouldn't take a lot to point this out. I opted for the chicken which when it came out whilst tasty was not as described , it had no spinach as on the menu, we queried this and the waitress said we were incorrect, as my girlfriend was adamant I got her to hand me a menu, which in fact did say it should have been served with spinach. There was no word of apology or anything from the waitress but 5 mins later she came out with a serving of spinach , whilst this was nice of her to do she could have just communicated to us what she was doing as we had basically finished the meal at this point. We asked for the bill and whilst not required there was no acknowledgement from any staff whilst leaving , I must say I regret leaving a tip for such awful service but I'm aware that a lot of waiters/waitress rely upon tips. I bought this deal so that I could check it out at minimal expense and then if I liked it I would obviously come again with the full menu and take friends/family etc. after my experience however I will not only not be avoiding the restaurant I will also be recommended friends and work colleagues that they should avoid it unless they enjoy spending their hard earned cash for a very unenjoyable evening .

starter (pate) was lovely, main (pork loin) was dry, dessert (chocolate brownie) was also dry. We weren't offered any condiments to go with our meal.

Service was absolutely terrible. Staff need to learn more English.

Although very polite, the service wasn't great. We wanted coffee but nobody asked us about it. And they kind of tricked us into having some expensive water. Basically pouring it out before asking whether we wanted any.

the restaurant was almost empty and yet at least two couples near us had cause for complaint about their food. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very dull and uninspiring.
