Groupon's Guide To Hampshire

Naturally rich in waterways, wildlife, and rugged terrain, Hampshire offers historic attractions and a mix of outdoors activities such as horse riding, river rafting, and coarse fishing.

Travellers may head to Jane Austen's House Museum revealing memorabilia and artefacts that once belonged to the novelist, while a historical outing can commence with Winchester Cathedral, where her tomb lies. Straying off the beaten track, consider dipping into the ArtSway Gallery, where a rotating collection of local and international artworks are displayed in a special New Forest space. A taste of the high-life can be enjoyed at the Southampton Hall of Aviation where a vast collection of vintage aircrafts can be explored, along with the considerable sky-gliding heritage of the Hampshire coast.

Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever experienced. Surprised as I’ve always rely on groupons choices of spa weekends. Hotel room was ok but looked out to waste land. Evening meal was like something out of faulty towers. 3 hrs to get through a 3 course meal. Food was bland and tasted like it had come straight out the microwave. Breakfast the following morning had no tables and no food and the fresh juice had run out. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I’ve sent them a review direct but heard nothing to date. Rather let down as it was a Xmas present I wasn’t expecting the Ritz but didn’t expect such poor standards. Didn’t even bother with the swimming pool as everything else was so out of date and dirty we thought better of it. Shame as I’ve always had great weekends away using groupon. All the best Nick

Looks luxury, delivers budget You need to go into this hotel with realistic expectations. The price reflects exactly what you are getting. The exterior, the history of the building as a former Marriott, and the golf course setting give the impression of a high end property. Unfortunately, that is no longer the reality. This is now a budget hotel, and the experience matches the price point. The rooms are clean and tidy, but very tired. Towels and sheets feel extremely thin and worn. It’s functional rather than comfortable. Again, for the price paid, it is not shocking, but don’t expect luxury. Breakfast is not worth adding. It is overpriced and honestly the worst breakfast I have had in a hotel. It is cooked to order but the options are poor. There is no fresh fruit, only tinned fruit and very basic yogurts. It feels like cost cutting everywhere. I am not sure what guests expect at this price, but it certainly does not match the image the hotel tries to project. The gym situation is disappointing. Guests are charged an additional £5 to use it, which feels unreasonable. The equipment appears to be from the old Marriott days. It is outdated, much of it does not work properly, and parts of the gym are sticky and have an unpleasant smell. After seeing the pool, I would not go in it. It looks neglected and uninviting. That said, the staff are genuinely helpful and polite. They do care and try to assist where they can. However, this is not a five star level of service and you are charged extra for many basics. Even small details like staff greeting guests in outdoor jackets add to the sense that the hotel is running on a tight budget. In summary, this is a cheap hotel and you get what you pay for. If you book with that mindset, it is acceptable. Just do not let the exterior or golf course setting mislead you into expecting a luxury stay.

THIEFS ....AVOID!! I stayed at the Meon on New Years Eve. Unfortunately I left a pair of boots in the room the following morning on departure. After several calls to the hotel, messages left to be contacted regarding me collecting the boots; I have not had any communication from the hotel. I went into the hotel 4th Jan to be told by the receptionist that there was no boots to be collected and the only thing to do would be to write a bad review! I am absolutely disgusted that my property has obviously been STOLEN!! No communication from any management and you obviously have a thief working within the hotel! I would advise anyone of thinking of staying here to think again if you value your belongings!!

Golf Course We stayed for 2 nights and planned to play 2 rounds of golf which we had booked. We were very disappointed to find when playing our first round, that half the holes were temporary greens. Although I can understand the problems caused by the wet weather, there was no indication that this would be the case. Having to pay the full price and not being advised of the course status in advance is very disappointing. We cancelled the second days golf and were able to play another course which had no temporaries.
