Epping Ongar Railway

The Epping Ongar Railway welcomes visitors with a selection of vintage transport experiences on various weekends during November. As one of the heritage lines located closest to the capital, taking up part of the former London Underground Network, the event lets participants take vintage buses directly from Epping station to North Weald, following the 339 route. At North Weald, enthusiasts will be able to hop on as many trains as they like running to and from Ongar, being pulled by a selection of the line’s steam and diesel locomotives. The trio of experiences are rounded off by a ride on the shuttle train, departing from North Weald and travelling through Epping Forest before returning back to North Weald. The various routes offer trips throughout the day, starting with the first bust from Epping station at 10.05am and the first train out of North Weald station at 10.40am, with tickets valid for two adults and up to three children aged three to 16. Kids under three years old are able to travel for free.

The Epping Ongar Railway has picked up various awards, including the Railway Heritage Awards’ 2012 gong for Heritage Railway of the Year, and a finalist nod in the 2013 Essex Tourism and Hospitality awards for Best Small Attraction. The railway also earned 4.5/5 from TripAdvisor users, picking up a 2014 Certificate of Excellence in the process. Visitors praised the enthusiastic volunteers, as well as the sheer variety of buses and trains at the events.
