Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard sends visitors on a trip back in time with over 800 years of Britain’s naval history laid bare for exploration. Lord Nelson’s legendary HMS Victory brings the Battle of Trafalgar to life, while the indomitable iron hull of HMS Warrior 1860 attests to Britain’s one-time ship-building prowess. The National Museum of the Royal Navy Portsmouth showcases centuries of maritime history through iconic artefacts and the Mary Rose gives insights into Tudor life. Curious explorer can also discover HMS M.33, Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower, Royal Navy Submarine Museum and the Royal Marines Museum. If that’s not enough, a 45-minute Harbour Tour awaits them along with the exhibition 36 Hours: Jutland 1916, The Battle That Won The War. Younger visitors will enjoy the Mast and Rigging experience in Boathouse 4 where they can see if they’ve got what it takes to be a sailor. Opening on 18 February is a new exhibition ‘Pioneers to Professionals: Women and the Royal Navy’ which explore the 250 years of women working in the Naval Service.
