About John Knox House
A medieval building dating back to 1470, John Knox House is Edinburgh's only surviving structure of its type. Equipped with an audio guide, visitors can explore the house associated with The Scottish Reformation, which led to civil war and the abdication of Mary, Queen of Scots. Guests will hear about the house's famous inhabitants including John Knox, a clergyman and writer, and James Mosman – jeweller and goldsmith to Mary, Queen of Scots – as well as the intruder-deterring tricks and traps, and The Oak Room's veiled devil.
