Moving onto their mains, customers can peruse a list of options numbering an 8oz Ardunan Farm pork loin chop servied with tomato, mushrooms, fries, a duck egg and cider jus (£16.50), double-breasted chicken with parma ham, tomato and fries (£12.50), or the 8oz grilled Scottish gammon steak with fried free-range egg, mushroom steak chips and tomato (£10.50). Each diner can enjoy their meal with a glass of wine (up to £5.25).

The Merchant
Located in the sleepy parish of Blanefield, just a short distance from the impressive Campsie Fells, Kirkhouse Inn welcomes guests with 15 bedrooms, a restaurant cooking local ingredients, live music and a stunning location. The building was originally constructed in 1601 as a stables and tavern, and has undergone its fair share of changes, scandals and ghost sightings. A strong Scottish theme is carried throughout the inn and this is reflected in the on-site restaurant – the Thrisstle. It’s name meaning thistle in Old Scots, the restaurant creates dishes using quality produce for a taste that’s anything but prickly. The eatery seats up to 100 guests and a private dining area boasts its own whisky bar, the Baurley-bree. Positioned within 30 minutes of Glasgow, the venue is easily accessed by city folk and provides a fabulous base from which visitors can explore Loch Lomond, Trossach’s National Park and the famous West Highland Way walk.
