What is colonic hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy (usually £70), also known as colonic irrigation, is a body-based hydrotherapy treatment. During a colonic hydrotherapy session, water is gently introduced into the large intestine through the anus in a controlled manner by a qualified therapist. Removing excess waste from the intestines can lead to feeling lighter, brighter and more alert, and can help to improve the symptoms of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, flatulence, bloating and constipation. What do sessions involve?
The treatment begins with a full medical consultation to ensure suitability. Clients will then be shown into a private room where they will change into a hospital-style gown and be asked to lie on their side. The therapist will try to make participants as comfortable as possible, before inserting a small sterile tube into the rectum. Purified water will flow in through the tube to flush out undigested food and any other matter lurking in the gut. Some clinics may use a mixture of enzymes, coffee, probiotics or herbs to loosen up stubborn waste. On average, the treatment takes one hour.
What is an enema?
Designed to assist the colonic hydrotherapy treatment, an enema (£25) contains a mixture of herbs which aims to improve the function of the colon. The colonic enema can be performed at the start, during or at the end of the colon hydrotherapy treatment to give optimum results to your cleanse. All enema herbs, solutions and coffee used are organic and aim to promote cleansing of the body.
How can people prepare beforehand?
Clients should avoid food for two hours before the treatment.
