From Our Editors

Nestled cosily between the South Downs and the sea, Proud Country House is an 18th-century Grade II-listed manor house designed by the French architect Nicholas Dubois in a distinct Palladian style. Guests can get a bite to eat at Source, a farm-to-fork concept which takes advantage of the rich array of quality, locally-sourced meats, fish and freshly-grown produce. Serving a seasonal British menu, Source offers an unbeatable ambience. This newly restored Grade I listed country house, dating back to 1722, is set in acres of unspoilt parkland and Sussex countryside. A peaceful and stylish experience just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of the City awaits all guests.

Very enjoyable experience. Polite and attentive staff. Afternoon tea plentiful - and took home a doggy bag.

We were seated outside at a reserved table, very hot day so would have been nice to have an umbrella for some shade!! Tea/coffee and food were served fairly promptly but had to wait ages for our glasses of prosecco, finally asked a waitress but was still waiting after 25 minutes so had to ask again by which time we had been waiting so long that several wasps had started buzzing around our table😢

Booked a jazz evening with a meal for 2. Got cancelled 3 times causing me to have to cancel and rearrange babysitters twice. They said on the last cancellation that they were abandoning the event for good. Nothing more than an apology for all the hassle caused and time wasted trying to reorganize and to get a refund.

Can be slow service, possibly as they were understaffed, but the staff are polite & the food very nice.

Poor value. £24 for two and states it would be £50 without the half pice voucher. We had one small plate of sandwiches between 6 people and only 5 scones. We had to ask for extra. Very quite at the venue and I can understand why. Outside was very untidy in the garden. There’s a just a feeling of lack of management and in need of leadership.

can't give zero! booked a birthday night and then they contacted me a week before to tell me they've cancelled the evening! it's completely messed up the evening and surprise, what's the point of offering these evenings and then backing out.....

Lovely setting but did not live up to my expectation. Poor quality and value. I think bits of cubed cake and scones that I think must have been frozen. No effort, and sandwiches really poor.
