From Our Editors

First established in Soho in 1926, Patisserie Valerie follows artisanal baking traditions brought to London by Belgian-born Madam Valerie, whose mission was to introduce continental patisserie to the English. Now boasting over 120 venues nationwide, the company adorns its cafes with the 1950s-inspired decor and serves up an array of freshly-made cakes, craft pastries, breakfasts, lunches, coffees and loose-leaf teas. Their specialities include meticulously-crafted croissants and viennoiseries, as well as homemade Italian-style gelato.

Sadly this visit was no way near the quality of the previous visit. Poor service, waited ages to get our drinks (only coffee and even that was the wrong coffee when it finally arrived). Drinks arrived after the food. Breakfasts were pretty much cold as the chef rang the bell to indicate it was ready (on the shelf at the hatch getting cold) and it took ages for someone to collect it. Poached eggs were rock hard. Toast was burnt. Arrived with no butter/spread and we were made to feel bad for even asking for butter. One group (3 people) walked out as they waited for ages and never even got their drinks. They'd ordered coffee and toast, but had been forgotten. After they left (they were in there when we arrived) their toast arrived for them and waitress wondered around asking if anyone ordered toast. There were just 3 tables of customers to serve, including the ones who left, not even busy. What a joke. Very disappointing.

Scones are frozen and microwaved - dry and hard. Awful for a patisserie. The mini cheese flans were microwaved too. Poor show
