The Golden Hinde is a reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake's famous galleon. The full sized vessel provides visitors with insight into Drake's journey around the world from 1577 - 1580. Self-guided tours are available which enable visitors to learn about the ship's historic background at their own leisure. Schools and community groups can take advantage of the Golden Hinde Trust's Educational Programme. Costumed actors provide an inspiring, living history experience of the ship which caters for all age groups and abilities. Special events are held regularly and include theatre productions, concerts, quiz nights and themed fun days. Private hire is available for functions and filming. The Golden Hinde is open daily from 10am - 5.30pm, except during privately booked functions. Sir Francis Drake's ship The Golden Hinde was used to circumnavigate the world, and has been reconstructed to give visitors a glimpse of life as a Tudor sailor. Visitors can listen to actors' tales about the ship's lengthy voyage and learn about daily life aboard the galleon. Guided tours are available in addition to self-guided tours. Interactive fun days, workshops and special events are held on a regular basis. The Golden Hinde is available to hire for a variety of functions including family sleep-overs, children's parties, weddings and corporate events. Included is a licensed bar, staffing and heating where appropriate. The ship is also available as a location shoot, and has appeared in many television programmes, films and photographs.
