From Our Editors

Located in Wellington Barracks, close to Buckingham Palace, the Guards Museum was opened in 1988 to house a wealth of information and historic items charting the Foot Guards’ history from the 17th century up to the present day. Made up of the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards regiments, the Foot Guard, along with the two regiments of Household Cavalry, are the soldiers that guard the Royal Palaces and the reigning monarch, while also forming an elite force when fighting as part of the army.

Rather small. Dull, uninspiring displays.

The Guards Museum is one of the numerous attractions around Buckingham Palace and would definitely accomplish your trip if history is your subject. The volunteers, who help running the museum are lovely and the shop is a heaven for the boys (big and small)

When we actually got into the museum it was very interesting, but their opening times were erractic, one day that the website said the museum should be open we arrived and it was closed another time we went into the museum and were evacuated before the visit was finished and therefore again the museum closed early.

Tried to charge me £6 on arrival and didn't seem to be aware of what a groupon voucher was. Was eventually resolved but after being shouted at a few times for not wanting to pay the £6 that wasn't to be paid I really didn't fancy the visit (it's hard to be critical though as I'm sure the chap was a volunteer and just wasn't aware of the vouchers - people skills were definitely lacking though!) The museum itself was quite good though once I persuaded myself to go in. Put it down to experience!
