From Our Editors

Based in the village of Stanton Fitzwarren, Stanton House Hotel is perfectly poised for further exploration of nearby Swindon, located a 14-minute drive away. Historical places of interest include the Museum of the Great Western Railway, and the 260 acres of Lydiard Park, featuring the Palladian House and a walled garden. A 20-minute drive brings guests to the outskirts of The Cotswolds, where quintessentially English villages such as Bibury await further exploration. Visitors may opt to take a tour of Cotswold Water Park, which is home to wildlife including otters, water voles and various types of birds. The night will be spent in a classic double or twin room, featuring an en suite, hot drink making facilities, a fridge and a TV. Guests can dine on modern British or Japanese food in one of the two on-site restaurants. The open-plan Rosemary restaurant boasts views out across Stanton lake and park, while the Yakiniku @ Mt Fuji restaurant encourages a more interactive atmosphere while seasoned ingredients are grilled over a flame. During their stay, visitors may opt to peruse the surrounding gardens, designed by Gertrude Jekyll in the 18th century. The grounds also overlook the nearby Stanton Lake and Park where locals enjoy pastimes such as fishing, canoeing and open-water swimming. Children aged 2 to 12 years can stay in the room for a £15 surcharge. Babies under 2 years are also welcome, with a £10 per night surcharge for a baby cot.

We went for afternoon tea and it was dreadful. The sandwiches content was cheap and low grade containing sandwich spread in one, tomato and cucumber in another and I think it was a tuna paste in another. Very small pots of jam and cream for the indifferent scones. The cake was stodgy and mass produced, cut from a tray. Looking around the room many customers had left most of their cake behind. To top it all there was no glass of Prosecco option available at extra cost with this Groupon so my wife ordered one and was charged £7.50 for one standard glass. We have been to many Groupon afternoon teas That have been lovely and this is the worst by far - never again.

if you have your cream tea on a wooden slatted table outside make sure legs of plate holder sturdy on the table as one went flying when we were there. But a brilliant venue

Lovely atmosphere & the hotel were very accommodating- allowing us to eat inside or out on the beautiful sunny terrace. Pleasantly surprised that we got a glass of prosecco and a pot of tea each. Scones and carrot cake were delicious. Sandwiches were ok, nothing special and the other cakes had lots of jam, which I'm not a fan of. Overall a lovely way to while away a few hours in the sun & would recommend.
