About This Deal
Denbies Wine Estate specialises in British tipples with a veritable rainbow of wines to slurp and savour, and locally sourced produce to nibble on too. A sparkling vineyard train tour will welcome guests with a glass of Denbies' own sparkling Whitedowns wine as they hop aboard a train pulled by a rugged 4x4 for an outdoor tour of the vineyard. On their way they'll learn about the estate's history before reaching the highest point of the land for spectacular Surrey views.
Groupon finds out a little more about the history of Denbies Wine Estate, and learns about the home-grown grapes and country bubbles.
What is it that makes this wine so good?
The vineyard is on the south-facing slopes of Surrey's North Downs, which are famed for their chalky soil, well-suited to growing grapes. Each bottle contains only grapes grown on site, meaning that the team can keep a close eye on quality control too.
Which kind of wines does the wine estate make?
The vineyard produces stacks of red, white and rose wines, some of which can be purchased on site. For example, Redlands is a deep crimson wine blending pinot noir grapes with a dornfelder for a fresh and fruity taste. There's even a stock of bubblies, with the Whitedowns Cuvee using 100% seyval blanc grapes for flavoursome hints of its countryside surrounds.
How long has the estate been creating wine?
The estate's history can be traced back to the mid-18th century, when it was a farm with a Georgian house. The vineyard itself was established in 1986, with 265 acres of vineyards, producing around 400,000 bottles per year.
What else is there to do on site?
There are two restaurants, a farm shop, and another shop selling bottles of wine and gifts. The grounds offer picturesque views over the rolling landscapes in the area, as well as of the chateau-style house itself and 200 acres of woodland. There are also plenty of other tours for those feeling extra curious.
