Highlights
This is a unique opportunity to pick up a heritage craft from a professional turner. Pole lathe turning is increasingly popular and bowl turning experiences a 'renaissance'. It is a real, hands-on skill that has tarvelled through history till the present day.
To create something useable and useful is an absolute joy, something that is only toped by the fact that is made from wood and not from plastic.
I can accomodate up to two participants at the moment. One-to-ones however, is the best ways to get most out of your day.
About This Deal
Itinerary
Heritage crafts man and profesional bowl and plate turner with over 10 years of experience turning on a traditional, foot powered pole-lathe.
I offer full day experience days in which you will pick up the basic skills needed to transform a lump of wood into a beautiful and functional item.I am very much a learning-by-doing man and believe the best way to pick up the skill of bowl turning is by getting right down to it. I will guide you but you will have plenty of opportunity to practice, making mistakes and celebrating successes.
The day will be spend at the lathe learning the techniques needed for cutting out a bowl from a pre-prepared blank.
The day is physically demanding but we will have plenty of breaks for processing newly learnes stuff and tea.
There will be a lunch break, of course. My workshop is a midge-free enviroment.
Please not that you will be pedalling away on a foot-powered lathe which requires a minimum level of fitness and sense of balance. If in doubt, get in touch before booking please.
