Terrible experience. Didn't know we had a booking for 4.00PM, same as people who arrived after us. No tables set. Dining area busier than Oxford St. with staff preparing for a function in adjoining room. Got a drink at 5.05PM but no food 'til 5.25PM. Phoned GM to complain on Thurs. & told he would call later that day but it is now Sat. and still no call from him. At least I suppose the Company is consistent, no redeeming attribute. I did receive an offer from the Assistant Supervisor to give it another go but undecided until I hear from the GM or not.

My friend and I went for afternoon tea and found the whole event chaotic. Although i had made a booking in July for early September I was contacted a few weeks later to say the day was fully booked and could i book another day - so i booked for 3pm on a Tuesday at the End of September. The problems we faced during our visit were as follows: 1. We were given the wrong directions of where to go for afternoon tea by the Reception 2. Although we arrived at 2.45pm for a 3.00pm booking there were no tables made up 3. We were sat at a table to wait for 15 mins before anyone saw to us. We were told there would be a wait and offered a complimentary drink. 4. We were given a box with the selection of tea leaves at 3.40pm. No explanation of what the leaves were and some of the jars were empty. Apparently there was an explanatory booklet which some other customers were given but we weren't provided with this. 5. When we asked, the waiter ran through the names of the teas, telling us "that should have been early grey and that should have been English Breakfast Tea" when referring to the empty jars, but did not offer to refill them 6. The hot water for the tea did not arrive until 4pm - more than an hour after our arrival. 7. The scones and sandwiches did not arrive until 4pm - more than an hour after our arrival. The scones were cold so it wasn't that the wait was to allow the scones to be freshly baked. 8. There was only one napkin on our table (which had been left over from an earlier sitting). 9. My friend asked for a napkin and was given a used napkin with good smears on it 10. We asked for more hot water, tea pot and cups so we could have more tea - we had to wait 20 mins for these to arrive and in the end my friend got up and had to go and find someone to get us hot water 11. As other people arrived, they were left standing around waiting. Again no tables were set up. And although there were lots of staff members walking around no-one seems to know anything about afternoon teas or wanted to take responsibility for it. 12. This couple were left for 30 minutes before they were attended to and then the waiter told them that "there have been lots of unexpected people turning up for afternoon teas today" and as such they would have to wait. When he was shown their booking confirmation he put his hands up and said " i don't deal with the bookings so thats not my problem, i just serve the teas"! Which was not a very professional response to a customer as it wasn't their problem either. They also had to wait over an hour from arriving and receiving their tea and sandwiches. At this point there was only the 4 of us having afternoon tea - not sure why there was such a long delay. 13. Another 2 couples arrived in the next hour that we were there and they had the same issue, no-one knew anything about afternoon teas, they were told to stand and wait until someone was found and they were sat at an unmade table, and then they had a long wait until their tea arrived. At anyone one time there was a maximum of 8 people who were there for their afternoon tea - which you would have expected the kitchen to be able to handle. 14. The staff were setting up the next door function room and at one stage they must have been testing the music system as loud music started to play from that room. This music played for 30-45 mins until we left, and got louder each time the door to the room was opened. This made conversation difficult and did not create a nice relaxing atmosphere. 15. Although we would have like to stay and have more time/tea it became too uncomfortable with the time delays, the noise and the uninterested staff. We asked if we could get the few remaining cakes wrapped up to take away and we were given 4 plastic cups with cakes wrapped in napkins - am i to believe that the kitchen does not use tin foil? 15. We did speak to the Manager, who told us, she had just arrived. She did apologise and offer us a complimentary return visit, but we declined. However, we were still there for another hour after speaking to her and we saw no difference in the service either to us or to any of the other or new coming customers. 16. The whole event felt like we were an inconvenience to the hotel and the staff. 17. We had pre-booked and as such thought someone would be expecting us but no-one asked for our name(s) and i noticed that they did not ask for anyone else to confirm their booking name/details. If this is the case, how do you know whether people have turned up unexpectedly or if they were meant to be there. 18. There didn't seem to be a system for serving this meal. It seemed as though we didn't see the same waiter/waitress twice. No-one seemed to be responsible. No-one was checking if things were ok and if customers were happy. 19. I am glad that I had not booked this for a special occasion as it felt like hard work rather than a treat.

Service was absimle. Terrible. We had to go through booking our slot online, but when we got there, noone knew about it. There were two other couples there, who had been waiting longer for their sandwiches and cakes, who also had the same problem. I felt like we were made to wait, in the hope we wouldnt want to, so leave. Everything took SO long, even though we had pre booked our slot. It took 2.5 hours for us to have everything served to us, and we took the cakes home because we coulsnt wait any longer. Been to alot of cream tea deal. The sandwiches and cakes and tea, were awesome, but were made to feel like we were nothing but an annoyance.

The afternoon tea was very poor quality. The cutlery was dirty and the server looked like he was around 90 years old. They forgot that we had prosseco as part of our deal.

The wait staff did not have a clue! The tea did not have any labels and the wait staff were of little help. They didn't even know what was in the sandwiches. More training and time to improve the afternoon tea service was clearly required.
