From Our Editors

The 19th century Dunston Hall stands tall on 150 acres of parkland in the Norfolk village of the same name. The hotel is situated on Ipswich Road, roughly a 15-minute drive from Norwich. Double rooms feature four poster beds, while suites benefit from views of the surrounding countryside. The 18-hole golf course sports an array of obstacles, and the spa facilities include a swimming pool and sauna. The fitness centre boasts modern equipment and the football pitch can be booked for matches and training alike. Visitors can seek meals at Bunkers Restaurant and The Brasserie Bar and Grill or enjoy a tipple at two further bars.

Experienced staff behind the bar need more training in Customer services. We have never before been laughed at because the food sent from the kitchen was sent up incorrectly and we were told we just had to have what they sent. They reordered we waited another 35 minutes for another sandwich which again was wrong. The Spa day itself was fine and the treatments we received were all great. The Hotel just needs to become the 4 star it's meant to be.

Lovely spa space. It's warm & comfortable to relax & read or snooze between using the facilities. The pool is not deep but perfectly good for swimming and it's a good size. Lockers are digital so no fiddling around for that £1 coin! Bar area very nice with pleasant, helpful staff. Food there on the higher price side but its a hotel and comparable with other hotel prices of same standard.

Unfortunately the day we went was not the best. We'd booked ahead and arrived looking forward to a relaxing afternoon of swimming sauna and Jacuzzi. As we arrived we were greeted however there was a Beard explaining that there'd been a problem with the hearing and the pool was likely to be cooler than usual. We went ahead and got changed and I was disappointed to feel the changing rooms were also very cool. As we walked through it looked like there'd been some decorating since our last visit, but as we dipped into the pool it was not even tepid. Big disappointment. I managed 4 lengths and needed warming up. We then spent the next hour and a half rotating between the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi but it was a big disappointment to not swim. We spent a couple of hours and decoded it was long enough and went to get changed. The lockers were great, roomy and easy to operate, unlike centre parcs which you almost need a degree to open! A quick shower took ages because it took forever to get warm and then would time out...all in all the plan for a relaxing pre-festive afternoon was the opposite. We didn't complain as we had seen the sign but it would've been nice to have had a phone call to explain and offer us to re-book...we were the only booking in the diary and there were 6 of us in there during the busiest period..so not like they were busy. I'll not book again. The best part about the entire day was the cake we had after...coffee was slopped all over the saucer delivered by a very friendly young man at the man but when I said he'd slopped it and lost a good amount his response was "oh yes I was a bit wobbly"!! That's not what I expect from Dunston Hall and not what we've had before. A disappointing afternoon altogether.

It was good value for money but please be aware that pool is open to residents and non residents and children can be very loud and boisterous in the pool which isn't conducive to a relaxing spa envi
